Embry-Riddle Dedicates the Robertson Aviation Safety Center

Daytona Beach, Fla., April 12, 1996 -- A dedication ceremony for the Robertson Aviation Safety Center will take place at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Prescott, Arizona, campus Friday, April 19, at 11:30 a.m. The 3,500 square foot center, named for S. Harry Robertson, president and CEO of Robertson Research Group, Inc. and member of Embry Riddle's board of trustees, will serve as headquarters for the Center for Aerospace Safety Education (CASE). The dedication is the closing event of a two-day safety symposium, "The Role of Director of Safety in Aviation," to be hosted by CASE and attended by over 150 aviation professionals.

Harry RobertsonCASE, created as an academic entity of Embry-Riddle in 1986 to support interdisciplinary safety education and aviation research, offers instruction leading to a certificate in aviation safety. Current courses provided under the direction of CASE include aviation safety program management, human performance in aviation, aircraft accident investigation and management, advanced accident investigation, CFR emergency response, and advanced maneuver training. Safety certificate courses are designed to provide refresher and initial training for industry professionals and graduate students.

The Robertson Aviation Safety Center includes a state-of-the-art aircraft accident investigation laboratory designed for accident scenario re-creation and layout testing and a fully equipped materials laboratory which contains the tools and equipment necessary for disassembly, inspection, and evaluation of aircraft components. The safety resource center, also located in the Robertson Aviation Safety Center, contains an aviation safety library which includes CAB/NTSB Aircraft Accident Reports dating back to 1938, Canadian Aviation Safety Board Accident Reports, and British AIB reports.

Partnerships with government, industry, and labor will assist CASE in providing academic and research support to champion their goals and to continue their growth and advancement. Additional information about the Robertson Aviation Safety Center and CASE, including a listing of advisory council members and upcoming events, may be found at http://www.pr.erau.edu/people/case.
