Embry-Riddle Forms Partnership with FlightSafety to Establish an Advanced Training Center

Daytona Beach, Fla., Sept. 6, 1996 -- Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will combine forces with FlightSafety International to create an advanced flight training center on the University's Daytona Beach, Florida campus.

Artist's Rendering of Simulation CenterEmbry-Riddle and FlightSafety have signed an agreement that defines the establishment of a flight simulator education, training and research facility. Embry-Riddle will design and construct a "high bay" simulation training center to house two new advanced full flight simulators produced by FlightSafety. FSI will provide management services including scheduling, maintenance and instructor training.

Embry-Riddle has selected FlightSafety simulators at the FAA's Level "D" for the Boeing 737-300 and Beech 1900D airliners for the training center. The facility will also become a focal point for the University's relationships with airlines, governments and corporations. The center will play a role in FlightSafety's Airline New Hire Program.

"We are pleased to enter into this partnering agreement with FlightSafety. Together we will chart a new course for the future of pilot education and training," said Dr. Steven Sliwa, Embry-Riddle president.

FlightSafety's president, A.L. Ueltschi, noted the stimulating effect of the center on the flying careers of talented new pilots. "We are confident that this quality of training environment will accelerate the learning process and provide an excellent transition between a top-flight academic preparation and an aviation career," said Ueltschi.

The training center will also be used to further research efforts by Embry-Riddle and FlightSafety, and will serve as a training facility for commercial airline pilots.

The world's largest university specializing in aviation and aerospace, Embry-Riddle has campuses in Daytona Beach, Fla., and Prescott, Ariz., and 115 education centers in the U.S. and Europe. Its curriculum covers the operation, engineering, research, manufacturing, management, and marketing of modern aircraft and the systems that support them.
