Bill Lehman of Florida learned aviation maintenance skills at Embry-Riddle and then became an Embry-Riddle instructor. The Lehman Engineering and Technology Center on the Daytona Beach, Florida, campus is named for him. Former U.S. Senate Minority Leader Howard Baker of Tennessee received flight training at Embry-Riddle during World War II.

Barry Goldwater of Arizona, who was also a former presidential candidate, served on the University's Board of Trustees and was instrumental in the University's acquisition of its Prescott, Ariz., campus.
