Embry-Riddle Institutional History Project

A significant component of the ERAU History Project is our exploration of the institutional history of Embry-Riddle.  The research team is composed of social science faculty from all three campuses:  Dr. Alan Bender, an Associate Professor of Aeronautics at the Extended Campus, Dr. Stephen Craft, Assistant Professor in the College of Arts and Sciences at the Daytona Beach Campus, and Dr. Valerie Adams, Assistant Professor in the College of Arts and Sciences at the Prescott Campus.  Initial research will be complete in January 2005.

As research progresses, and the fascinating story of how ERAU evolved from a 1920's flight school to the fully accredited aeronautical university ERAU is today begins to materialize, the Heritage Project is offering a preview of the history.  The first two chapters by Daytona Beach Campus Assistant Professor Stephen Craft are available here:

The Embry-Riddle Story by Stephen Craft

Chapter I - Embry-Riddle And American Aviation

Chapter II - Embry-Riddle in a World at War

Dr. Steven Craft is exploring Embry-Riddle from its earliest days as a flight school in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1926 through to modern themes and issues in the university's history.
Dr. Alan Bender is researching the history of the Extended Campus.  The EC was created in 1971 as the International Campus.  Since the 1970s, the EC has been through several transformations, and currently has enrollments of over 20,000 students throughout the U.S., Middle East, and Europe.
