The Office of Diversity InitiativesDiversity and Equal OpportunityEmbry-Riddle Aeronautical University values diversity. We respect the rights and properties of all individuals, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, age, physical disability, economic background, sexual orientation /identity, or religious belief. We believe in a community where all members are welcome, and individuals or groups are free from harassment.Embry-Riddle is also an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender, age, national origin, disability, veteran status, or sexual orientation. The Office of Diversity Initiatives was created by Embry-Riddle President Dr. John P. Johnson, and is under the auspices of the Office of the President. The office was created to help build a positive climate in which all students, faculty and employees are encouraged
in their professional, social, and intellectual pursuits. The office supervises the Daytona Beach Women’s Center and collaborates with University administration as well as colleges, departments, and/or committees to provide an inclusive environment for work and study through embedding diversity in all areas of its activities, ensuring that faculty, staff, and students experience a consistently family-friendly, welcoming, and supportive environment to assist them in reaching their full potential. In addition to programs on the campuses, the office is also involved in a wide-variety of community-related programs designed to foster interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) among women and under-represented groups in the K-12 educational system. Pilot projects include a GEMS (Girls Exploring Math and Science) Camp during the summer months and the introduction of an aviation/aerospace program for all 6th graders at Campbell Middle School in Daytona Beach. We consider one of our most important missions to be the stewardship of our students, who are our primary focus at Embry-Riddle. Their well-being and feeling of belonging is paramount to this office. It is our goal to ensure that every student feels welcomed and included into the Embry-Riddle community. Our office is committed to serving the needs of our students, our employees, and our community in all areas of diversity and inclusion. Joanne Detore-Nakamura, Ph.D., |
