Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Worldwide Receives Saba Excellence Award

October 15, 2008 - The Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Worldwide Campus is the recipient of the 2008 Saba Customer Excellence Award for Best Overall Academic Deployment. Excellence awards are presented to organizations committed to advancing the area of human capital management through innovative business strategies that align employees and partners with overarching organizational initiatives for the ultimate goal of increasing customer satisfaction.

The Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Worldwide Campus will be honored at an award ceremony during the Saba Global Summit on Tuesday, October 21 at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capital Hill.

Saba Centra technology Software is the technology providing the backbone for what is known at Embry-Riddle as EagleVision which brings together voice, video, data, and graphics in a structured online environment to create a virtual classroom unique to Embry-Riddle’s global requirements.

One of Embry-Riddle’s biggest challenges had been to support its extensive network of small outlying "campuses," where many times not enough students would register for a particular course to justify the cost of an instructor to teach it. "For example, we might have a top aviation business manager teaching a course in one of our San Diego classrooms, and a handful of students in Seattle and Las Vegas who want to enroll in the same course," explained Becky Vasquez, director of student and technology services for Embry-Riddle. "Without adequate numbers to support the cost of instructors in each location, we might have to cancel the outlying course offerings – disappointing those students and reducing our revenue. EagleVision lets us connect our classrooms and offers live courses to students hundreds or thousands of miles away – taught by the best faculty in their field."

The Worldwide Campus began in 1970 as a branch of Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach campus at Ft. Rucker, Ala., with 20 students, primarily military working adults. Since then, the program has become one of the nation’s largest off-campus, regionally accredited colleges, with over 45,000 alumni. It educates more than 27,000 students through classroom, online, or hybrid undergraduate and graduate degree and certificate programs.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, the world's largest, fully accredited university specializing in aviation and aerospace, offers more than 30 degree programs in its colleges of Arts and Sciences, Aviation, Business, and Engineering. The university educates more than 34,000 students annually in undergraduate and graduate programs at residential campuses in Prescott, Ariz., and Daytona Beach, Fla., Worldwide at more than 130 centers in the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Middle East, and through online learning.
