Embry-Riddle Opens New Classroom Location in Melbourne, Fla

Melbourne, Fla., Sept. 23, 2008 – The Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Worldwide Campus located at Patrick Air Force Base, has officially opened a new classroom location in the City of Melbourne. The grand opening of their new site at 4450 W. Eau Gallie Blvd was held-in conjunction with the Melbourne-Palm Bay Chamber of Commerce. Melbourne’s vice mayor Kathy Meehan cut the ribbon with Embry-Riddle Worldwide Campus chancellor Martin A. Smith and Space Coast campus director of academics, Jan Snyder. In attendance were students, instructors, and a 92 year young alumni, Bob Whitney. Embry-Riddle is looking forward to expansion in the offering of their undergraduate and graduate related aviation/management/safety/human factors certificates and degrees.

The benefits of this new classroom location are already proving to be extraordinary. ERAU is looking forward to expansion by offering their undergraduate and graduate related aviation/management/safety/human factors certificates and degrees to the local community and business leaders. Discussion has begun with Melbourne Airport officials to bring training in aviation related skills to the area. Embraer, Brazil’s largest aircraft manufacturing company is setting up a manufacturing facility on airport grounds and will be in need of properly trained aircraft mechanics. The potential for more aviation related businesses in the area brings good news to Brevard County’s economic development goals as aerospace workers in the northern end of the county may be able to partake in retraining opportunities. Embry-Riddle is already establishing contacts with Embraer of Brazil and by offering local training here would hope to further establish working relationships between the two institutions.
