John R. Watret, Ph.D.
Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Worldwide

John R. Watret, Ph.D., Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, Worldwide has been with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University since 1989.  John has served in several capacities with the university: including Associate Provost, Associate Chancellor, Associate Dean of Academics, Associate Chair of Mathematics, Program Coordinator, and several stints as Interim Department Chair.

John is originally from Scotland.  He earned his undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland.  In 1983, he traveled to the United States to pursue graduate work at Texas A&M University, where he completed first his Master's degree and then a doctorate in Applied Mathematics, researching mathematical models to predict crack propagation in viscoelastic materials.

A two-year leave of absence from Embry-Riddle beginning in 1992 led John to Japan, where he headed up the Department of Mathematics and Computing for Texas A&M's branch campus in northern Japan.  There he met his future wife, Elizabeth Mathews.  John and Elizabeth's most important project, however, remains their dedication to their daughter Sophie Mathews Watret.

John's hobbies include flying (he has his private pilot's license), horseback riding (he played polo for Texas A&M), scuba diving, hiking, biking, and rollerblading.
