Department of Arts and Sciences

The Department of Arts and Sciences is responsible for the general education requirements for the degree programs offered by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University-Worldwide. These requirements are made up primarily of the lower-level course requirements, 100- and 200-level courses, which include various academic areas, Mathematics, English, Communications, Social Sciences, Physical Sciences, Humanities, Economics, etc., as well as upper-level courses that are not included in the Department of Leadership, Management and Technology or Aeronautical Science. The Department is responsible for any changes to these courses and coordinates on any curriculum matters affecting the various Worldwide programs when general education requirements are concerned.

Dr. Schultz

Dr. Jim Schultz holds a Bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in Television & Radio Management/Operations (1968), a Master's degree from The University of Oklahoma in Human Relations (1977), a Master's Degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Aeronautical Science and a Doctorate from the University of Southern California in Educational Administration/Higher Education (1983).

Jim retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Lt. Colonel in 1992. His previous military assignments have included staff tours at Headquarters, Strategic Air Command (HQ SAC), where he was the Chief of Marketing & Deputy Chief of the Financial Management Division, and at Headquarters, Air Force Military Personnel Center (HQ AFMPC), where he served as the Chief of Training Systems, and Chief of Marketing and Analysis.  His other assignments included serving as the Installation Commander, Bellows AFS, Hawaii, and Vice Commander of the U.S. Army's Kilauea Military Camp, also located in Hawaii. He is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Squadron Officers' School and Air Command and Staff College. He is also a graduate of the National Defense University's Security Management Program.

Dr. Schultz has had over 100 articles either presented or published at the regional, national and international levels. He has served as a human resources management & marketing consultant for Pace Foods of San Antonio (known for its picante and taco sauce), Medical Supplies Corporation of Hawaii, First City Bank, World Airlines Pilots Association, and the 149th Tactical Fighter Group, Texas Air National Guard, and the 46th Air Base Wing, Eglin AFB, Florida. He attended pilot training at Reese AFB Texas and holds FAA pilot ratings. He was granted Executive Membership in the American Marketing Association in 1988. He is a tenured Professor of Leadership, Management & Technology, and the Chair of the Department of Arts & Letters. Dr. Schultz also instructs in the ERAU Master of Science in Technical Management degree program at various locations in the United States and overseas.

Dr. Schultz is married to Dr. Marian (Stine) Schultz, a tenured Professor of Management at the University of West Florida. They have two children; Jeremy (20), a Junior at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky, who is on a tennis and academic scholarship, and Joshua (15) who attends Pensacola Catholic High School in Pensacola, Florida.
