The Daytona Beach campus offers a variety of varsity
athletic programs, including baseball, basketball, golf, soccer,
tennis, and volleyball. The ERAU Eagles compete as
members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA)
and the Florida Sun Conference (FSC). As a collective, the Eagles are
consistently among the finest in the nation, ranking 13th in the country
according to the 2001-02 Sears Cup Standings as administered by the
National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). The
athletic program at Daytona Beach also claimed the FSC's All-Sports
Trophy at the conclusion of each of the past three seasons, becoming
only the second team in the league's history to accomplish that feat.
Intercollegiate athletics at the Daytona Beach campus can be traced
back to the 1988-89 academic year, when the University inaugurated five
men's sports: baseball, basketball, golf, soccer, and tennis. In the
past nine seasons, current Director of Athletics Steve Ridder has overseen
the addition of six more programs, including: volleyball
(1995), women's soccer (1998), men's and women's
cross country (1999), women's tennis (1999-00)
and women's golf (2000-01).
In addition to successes on the field of play, Embry-Riddle athletes
have proven themselves repeatedly in the classroom and in the community.
A total of 56 athletes have earned NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete
honors during their tenure in Daytona Beach. As participants in the
NAIA's recent Champions of Character initiative, Embry-Riddle athletes
can be found throughout the Daytona Beach community, helping with projects
such as elementary school reading programs, hospice center support,
and Special Olympics.
