NROTC Scholarship Applicants

The NROTC scholarship applicants may request enrollment in the Marine Corps option program at the time of initial application by placing an "X" in the Marine Corps Program block of the NROTC-Marine Corps Scholarship Application located in the back of the NROTC Bulletin. Except for students received from Marine Corps active or reserve duty, all NROTC (Marine option) Scholarship students enrolling in the basic NROTC course shall be enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.


Marine Option Four-Year Scholarship Program Students

Marine Officer EmblemA Marine option student is an NROTC student, Scholarship or College Program, who has been voluntarily designated by the Commanding General, Marine Corps Recruiting command (Code ON) as a candidate for commissioning in the U.S. Marine Crops Reserve. Marine option scholarship students are enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.

Marine Option Four-Year College Program Student

College Program applicants who desire Marine Corps option may enroll as Marine Corps students. NROTC Four-Year College program students (Marine Corps Option) will enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve when they incur obligated active service for a period of eight years the day junior classes commence.

Marine Option Two-Year Program Students

Marine Option Two-year Program students (Scholarship and College Program) will enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve upon satisfactory completion of NSI for a period of eight years on the day junior classes commence.

Marine Corps Option Summer Training

All NROTC Marine Corps Option students will participate in the same summer training program with their Navy peers for 3rd Class and 2nd Class cruises. Naval Education and Training Program (NETC) must approve alternate summer training for Marine Option students, with selection for such training being done by Marine Corps Recruiting Command (MCRC). 1st Class Marine Option students will attend the NROTC portion of Marine Corps Officer Candidates School (OCS), Quantico, Va. Attendance will normally be between the junior and senior years. The NROTC unit, utilizing NETC's appropriation data and funding, provides orders.

Platoon Leaders Class Program (PLC)

For freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, the Marine Corps offers the Platoon Leaders Class Program (PLC). Freshmen and sophomores attend two six-week training sessions, and juniors attend one 10-week session at Quantico, Va.

To be eligible for the program, the student must be a U.S. citizen (either native-born or naturalized), with full-time enrollment in a minimum of 12 academic credits per semester, and must be working toward an accredited/recognized baccalaureate degree.

The PLC Program offers two entry-level paths that lead to commissioning as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. The first is the Guaranteed Aviation Program. Applicants must have a qualifying ACT, SAT, or ASVAB score and must take the Aviation Selection Test Battery (ASTB). Those who have at least the minimum score of 4/6 on the ASTB; pass a Class 1 aviation medical examination performed at a Navy medical facility; pass a Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test (PFT); and are accepted into the program by Headquarters Marine Corps, will be eligible to receive a contract guarantee.

The second program is the Ground Officer Program. This program encompasses all Military Occupational Specialties (MOS's) not directly related to piloting aircraft, or guaranteed law.
