Hello Everyone,

Things are finally starting to come to a close, this being one of them. It's my second to last journal, and I'll soon complete my first year of college. The past two weeks have been spent preparing for this coming week, finishing up all the material so we could review and start finals on Saturday. I had my last tests before the finals and a paper due, all of which went well. If I am able to do well on all my finals again this semester, I'll be able to maintain my 4.0! Hopefully all will go well and I'll find time to study amidst all the other things going on.

I'm still searching for a house to buy and move into next year. It's been fun, but I'm ready to find something so that I have those plans for next year secure. I'll miss not living on campus and being close to everything, but I'm really looking forward to having my own space and a kitchen to cook and bake. I miss not being able to make my own food; thankfully I have amazing upper-classmen friends who allow me to come over and bake at their place if I'm really desperate. Also, having my own washer and dryer will be nice. It gets expensive, but getting 5 loads of laundry done at the same time was nice for a year.

I need to start packing up my stuff to put in storage; we have to be out of the dorms the day after our finals are completed. My mom is flying down to drive with me back up to Michigan for the summer. It will be fun to have that time to talk and catch up on all that has happened this past semester.

My summer is going to be completely crazy, I have so many things that I want to accomplish. I'm planning on taking a class at the local Community College in my area, get my pilot's license, work, and visit with my friends. Also I'll be attending Oshkosh with ERAU to work at their tent for the event. I've gone every year with my dad since I was in 4th grade, that's how I found out about this school. It will be so rewarding to go this year as a student, encouraging other young people to follow their goals and encourage them to look into attending Embry-Riddle! Look into coming to the event, it's the biggest airport/ tower in the world for that week, and it's mesmerizing. They have great acrobatic air show in the afternoon, acres of airplanes on exhibit to see (kit planes, war birds, new factory built, classics, ultra lights, sea planes), and barn/tents of displays from everything and everyone who has anything to do with aviation. Every year that I've gone I've found something new to look at or a new area to explore. If you think it might be there, it probably is :-). For any pilot or person that enjoys aviation it's a must see! Hopefully I'll see you there!

Kristina and Ben

Back to the present, off the Oshkosh Tangent, if you couldn't tell I really love that place. This past Saturday I went to the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity's Chartering Banquet with Ben and had a wonderful time. The fraternity was chartered two weeks ago and Pike is the newest fraternity on campus; they were all very excited and were initiated this weekend before the banquet. It was a great experience and I was happy to be a part of it. Girls love any excuse to get all dressed up.

Well, I hope all is going well for you as you begin to wrap up your academic year. I need to get back to homework; I didn't get much of it done this weekend.

Until next time, Happy Landings!

Hello Everyone-

The count down for the semester's end has begun, only 3 more weeks until I've completed my first year of college! This past year I have grown so much, college has been an amazing experience and I've defiantly 'broadened my horizons.'

Although my spring break ended two weeks ago, it hasn't really seemed like it because I've been entertaining my friend, Kaiti, and my family the past two weeks while they've been visiting me on their Spring breaks. Kaiti got into Daytona Beach the Wednesday after my Spring Break ended and stayed until Saturday, and my family got here last Friday and stayed a week.

Kaiti and I have been friends since elementary school and she goes to school in Chicago where she's the Girls Track Star. She's a great friend and was so determined to come see me over her break that she drove 31 hours here on a Grey Hound Bus and 33+ hours back. We had a lot of fun while she was in town hanging out. I took her to the beach an afternoon and to our pool on campus. Also, it was campaign week for SGA elections, so I recruited her into helping me in the kitchen bake chocolate chip cookies, brownies, rice krispies, and cup cakes for my campaign. 'HONOR… for COA'

Elections were this week Tuesday and Wednesday, and I found out on Thursday morning that I got in! So I am officially a member of SGA's student rep. board for the 2005-2006 academic year. I'm so happy that all my campaigning paid off, but I was slightly disappointed because two of my close friends did not get the positions for which they ran. The great thing is that everyone has taken this election seriously but not let it deicide who they are, and those who lost seem to be taking it as well as can be expected.

My family was here this past week, it was so nice to see them and spend time with them. I'd been anticipating their arrival and it was nice to know they were in not only the same state as me but they were 15 minutes away. My family stayed at the Fairfield Resorts on Ocean Walk off of A1A. They had a condo for the week and I brought over all my friends for dinner and to hangout on the beach and the pool deck. We had a ton of fun and were outside by the pool or ocean almost the entire time they were here. Also we went to a baseball game with the ERAU Eagles vs. the Daytona Cubs. It was a great break having them here but also hard because so much was going on. I really need to get to my homework and back into the swing of studying. I'll be able to relax some more once the semester is done. Until then it's back to the craziness of getting everything completed and all the materials covered before finals.

Until Next Time, Happy Landings!

Hello Everyone-Craziness that's about all I can say regarding the last two weeks.

To start off I had a great birthday. I went out to eat and got a lot of cards in the mail from my family. It was a little weird not being with them for the first time on a big occasion like that, but I still had a great time. My friends at school are wonderful and they definitely helped to make this birthday special.

I also had test overload that week. "When it rains it pours" has never held a truer meaning for me than this past year. Every time I have one test, it seems I have at least three. Thankfully, they were all on different days which gave me a little less stress over studying. With spring break the following week, everyone was trying to get all the material covered and tested before we had a week off to forget it all. I counted my blessings because I haven't had to study over the break; some of my friends have three tests this coming week.

Spring break was wonderful; I stayed in Daytona Beach all but one day when I drove to Winter Haven, FL to visit my roommate from last semester, Crystal. I mainly worked over the break because we didn't really have nice weather. Granted it's warmer than Michigan would have been had I gone home, but it wasn't really 'lay out on the beach all day' weather. My roommate Julee's sister and best friend came down for the week as well, so we hung out with them in the evenings and tried to show them the sights of Daytona Beach.

At work I was able to spend a lot of time in the phone room as well as go over to campus visit to help with the "masses" that came to tour our campus, I answered phones and gave tours. There were so many people here it was overwhelming at times. I think some of the tour groups were so large that they lasted twice as long as a normal tour would have. And we were understaffed because most of the students we work with left for Spring Break. At least now I have a little extra spending money.

On Saturday I drove to Winter Haven with Ben to go see Crystal, and learned how to water ski! I really didn't want to learn, but I'm so glad I did (thanks for forcing me Crystal). I was able to get up on every attempt and stayed up for about 5 minutes my last time. We also hung out at the pool and just caught up on each others lives. I really miss her, but love my new roommate.

Easter was fun as well, although not traditional- we went to the beach after church. What else is there to do when you're away from your family and they're all eating good food, and it's a beautiful day in Florida???

Anyways, hope your Easter was Blessed, I guess it's back to school for me tomorrow.

Until Next Time, Happy Landings!

Hello Everyone!

So much has happened since I wrote last... It's crazy I have to sit down and actually think about what I wrote last time and try to include everything since then, maybe I should start making notes!

School is going well, I have three tests this week, trying to fit them all in before spring break, which is next week! I'm staying in town for the week; it should be fun and very busy. The beach was busy yesterday; I can only imagine what it will be like next week. The weather has been cooperating for the events, the beginning of last week a cold front with a lot of rain came through but this weekend the weather was back in the high 70's, low 80's. You've got to love the sunshine! Although, sunscreen is very important- I have gotten really burnt the past two days from not wearing enough. It's hilarious because I'm all blotchy, hopefully it will even out next week.

The past few weeks I've been working through the SRB (Student Representative Board) Process for Student Government. I've begun to campaign for a spot next year in the College of Aviation. It's been a great experience and I'm looking forward to when we can begin to do visual campaigning in addition to the verbal campaigning that has been in process the past week and a half. One of my close friends is running for Student Government President and she's been helping me out with campaigning strategies, I hope that we both get in and can work together next year!

Well, I told you I'd give you an update on Bike Week. It was pretty crazy, bikes were everywhere. You could here them basically all day and night, but it wasn't unbearable. You get use to loud stuff outside going to this school- bike week, races at Daytona International Speedway, living on the Daytona Beach International Airport. During Bike Week I really didn't leave campus just because it takes forever to go anywhere due to all the traffic. On Sunday, I did go to the beach and was able to snap a picture with my digital camera, but this doesn't begin to show how many bikes were here earlier in the week.

The highlight of this past week was Saturday. I, along with Ben, my roommate Julee, and her boyfriend Luke, all rented a Cessna 172 Skyhawk and flew across the state to Clearwater to attend a Spring Training Braves vs. Phillies Baseball Game. We left Daytona Beach at 11:00 am and returned at 7:00 pm. The weather was beautiful which made for and awesome flight and game. Plus I love Baseball, and had never been to a pro game before so I was completely excited! It was an expensive trip but a great memory maker, and a ton of fun. I just hope that I can go see the Yankees next time because they're my favorite team!

Anyway, I should get back to work I still have a chapter to read in my Business class before the test on Thursday. Wish me luck! And have a Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! (That's my birthday!)

Until next time, Happy Landings!

Kristina

March 3, 2005

Hello Everyone!

I hope you are all doing well. Everything's going well over here; the weather is beautiful! My family keeps telling me about all the snow they've been getting, meanwhile I'm visiting the beach and walking around in t-shirts and capris. They say I've forgotten what snow is and I guess that's true. Seems weird that at the end of February, when it's spring here, they're still getting snow days and out snowmobiling and plowing. But they are coming down for my sister and brother's spring break at the end of March, only a few more weeks, and I'm SO EXCITED! I really miss them and it will be nice to see them and hang out on the beach in the warmth together.

Speaking of the beach, I went two Sundays ago and saw a whale! It was amazing. Hard to believe but it was out there, at first we thought it was a dolphin but we saw the tail of it and the blow spout. I wish I would have had my camera.

Race week was crazy but fun; my roommate's sister came to visit so we hung out with her. The tour that I had to give on Presidents Day went well; it was a big group with great questions. This past week I also had the opportunity to walk a group of Chancellors and Deans from other Colleges and Universities who were in town for a Graduation Conference around campus for a brief tour. Our school is truly one of a kind, there isn't any other school like it in the world, and it was fun sharing our campuses' uniqueness with them.

This past weekend was really fun. I went to a hockey game and two baseball games and on Friday night a group of my friends and I got together and went to a rodeo. It wasn't the best rodeo, but we had fun and that made the best of it. After the rodeo we went to the beach in the rain, where my roommate dropped her phone in the ocean chasing the waves (lets just say ocean water and phones don't mix) -sorry Julee, and then Starbucks to warm up. It was an eventful, memory making night.

This coming weekend should be busy as well; its Bike Week and all the traffic should start coming in today. I hear that it's crazy trying to drive anywhere. If I go out it'll be to snap some pictures to show you all. Work and school are going good; this semester seems to be going by so much faster. Well I need to go to bed so I'll be up on time for my 8:00 class tomorrow.

Until next time, Happy Landings!

February 17, 2005

Hello Everyone! It's already about a month into the Spring Semester and time truly has gone by fast. This week in Daytona is "Speed Week"- should be crazy with the Daytona 500 on Sunday, and all the races leading up to it. This coming week will also be great because of the long weekend we have due to Presidents Day on Monday.

This past weekend I participated in a student panel for the Sunshine Tour- a tour high school counselors go on to visit colleges and gain information on them to help students become aware of different schools and their programs. It was a neat experience talking to the counselors and sharing our input of the school with them. This coming Monday, on our day off, I'll also be helping out on campus with the tour. It should be fun, I love walking prospective students and their families around ERAU.

School is going great for me and my classes are going as well as I could ask, on all my first tests I received a B or higher which I am very happy about. First tests always seem to be a learning tool for me, you can learn how to study more efficiently and use them to gauge your current progress in the class. This week in my Air Traffic Control Class we get to start working scenarios in the radar room, and are done with the entire lecture portion of the class!

On an extra-curricular note, Student Government just made available packets for Student Rep Board, which I hope to be involved with next year. I'll be running to be a Representative for the College of Aviation, hopefully for my degree program of ATM (Air Traffic Management). Currently in Task Force One I'm involved in the Bi- Law Committee, which is setting the foundation for how TFO will be run in the future. If you like Student Government, you should get involved with it next year... it's a lot of fun and hopefully you'll be able to be more productive because of the ground work our class and last year's have put into establishing the group. Also I'm chairing a housing committee to evaluate the lock out policy for when students lose their dorm room key or get locked out. I also found out this week that I didn't make it through the selection process to be an R.A.. I was really disapointed but, I guess it wasn't meant to be... like I'm not busy enough as it is already :)

I think next year I'm going to live off campus and maybe try to buy a house, it should be a really great investment for the next 3 years. Plus I can live with my friends and have a kitchen. Maybe I'll try again next year for the R.A. position depending on what happens, we'll have to see... Well I have some E-mails from all of you that I'm going to try to respond to in my free time this weekend plus some homework to do.

Until next time, Happy Landings!

Kristina

February 3, 2005

Hey Everyone! Wow, it's been so long since I've written a journal and so much has happened. Last time I was getting ready for exams (which went extremely well) and getting ready to move into a different dorm on campus because my roommate wasn't going to return for this semester.

I'm now moved into my new dorm, which is so much fun and a completely different experience, it's like a family and everyone hangs out and studies together all the time. The new semester has also gotten off to a great start. I'm taking all upper level classes and this is my last semester of math. Most of my classes are difficult because they are usually taken your sophomore or junior year, and I'm taking classes in my degree program which is very rare for a freshman. This semester I'm taking my first Radar Class for ATC and I absolutely love it! The pieces of my career are starting fall into place and I am very confident that Air Traffic Management is the right degree program for me. This week has been so busy; I have a test in every class everyday but Thursday. Hopefully I'll be done with them for the next two weeks or so.

As you read from the Newspaper article that was posted, I was in DC over the last journal posting. It was an amazing experience, especially because I was able to take part in every part of the process this year. I attended a Bush rally back in November, along with a speech given by his brother, Jeb Bush our Governor, the night before elections. I was able to vote and then attend all the events in Washington D.C. relating to the Inauguration. I attended the Inauguration with my parents and my good friend Ben; we were in the closest standup section and could hear everything well, although I didn't really have much of a view because I'm so short. It was really cold and we were outside for over 4 hours for the event, but it was living history. That evening my Representative gave us tickets to attend the Michigan Inaugural Ball. We got all dressed up for the black tie event that was in the Smithsonian of American History, all 4 levels. There were about 2,000 people who attended the event consisting of amazing food and desserts, and 8 different bands for dancing. The following days we toured the Capital Building, The White House, went on a Monuments tour in the evening, walked around the Smithsonian of Air and Space for about 4 hours and drove to Annapolis to visit Adam, a friend from home, who attends the Naval Academy. It was a busy, activity-filled 3 days, but I would do it all again in a heart beat!

Campus life is going well this semester I'm still working in admissions, and involved in TFO, Student Government, and we're planning a Spirit Week, which will hopefully be a huge success and the beginning of a tradition for our school. Also this semester I'm going through the application process to become an RA. Who knows, I could be your RA next year, I feel it's a great leadership opportunity and really hope to get the position.

The city of Daytona Beach is getting a little crazy. This week in Jacksonville is the Super Bowl and a lot of students were recruited to work the event as security guards. It's a really cool experience but it will be a long day for them as they have to be there long before the event starts until everyone leaves, hopefully the weather will be nice. ERAU is located right on the international airport and right next to the Daytona Speedway. Now, not only do we get to listen to airplanes, but also the cars practicing, there's seldom a quiet moment but very exciting to be a part of. The races are going to start next weekend. I believe with the big race Presidents weekend, it should be interesting trying to get around if we have to leave campus.

Well, like I said, I have test over-load this week, back to the books!

Until next time, Happy Landings!

P.S. The school's email system lost all my e-mails, they're floating around in cyber space somewhere, if you sent me something since Christmas I probably didn't receive it and, if I did, I don't have a copy of it any more. If there are questions you have, please re-send them to me and I'll try to answer them in my journals or send you a personal reply. Thanks!

***Kristina is presently in Washington, DC for the president's inauguration ceremony. She was invited because of a gift she sent to President Bush. Read the story published in her hometown newspaper and come back to this site in two weeks to read all about her trip. ***

Hey everyone-
I hope that all of you had a very enjoyable Thanksgiving and that you’re looking forward to Christmas and the New Year! I leave to go home for the Christmas/ Semester break in 12 days… hard to believe that when I come back I’ll no longer be one of the ‘new kids’ on campus.

My trip home to Michigan for the holidays was very enjoyable. Like I wrote in my last journal and had guessed, while I was home it snowed seven inches! It was really cold and I wasn’t able to fly because the weather was bad.

But, it was really nice to sleep in my own bed and to have a room to myself. It was also really nice to see all my friends from high school and church and catch up with them. I will tell you that as weird as it may seem I was excited to come back to school. I really started to miss all my friends (I love you guys!!!) and the warm weather, I don’t know what I’ll do when we leave for break and I don’t see them for three weeks! When you’re in college you spend all your time with your friends and they become like another family to you… its really cool.

This past week at school was really busy finishing up projects and starting reviews for my last tests and finals. It’s nice to know that, as busy as everything is right now, it’ll be over soon. I’m not really sure what to expect out of my first set of college exams… hopefully they won’t be any harder than the tests.

Work has also been going really well, I’ve loved helping out with campus tours and answering the phones has been fun too. It's so much fun telling someone that they’ve been accepted to Riddle… and to hear the excitement in their voice when they find out.

This past weekend was really nice, Saturday my roommate Crystal and I drove down to Orlando to go Christmas shopping at a huge outlet shopping mall they have there. It was fun to be shopping in an outdoor mall for Christmas presents while it was 65 outside. That night we went to the hockey game an hour earlier than it started and I learned how to ice skate… yes I am from Michigan and have never ice skated. It was very interesting, I’m not a natural, we’ll just leave it at that. But it was a nice to broaden my horizons and try new things and the game was fun.
Off to study, the books are calling.
Until Next Time, Happy Landings!
Kristina

November 25, 2004

Hey Everyone -
I'm leaving to go home for Thanksgiving tomorrow and I'm SO EXCITED! I can't wait to be home and see my family, friends from high school, people from my church and the Bobeldyks- a family I baby sit for. College is fun, but it will be nice to have a little bit of a break, not from the homework of course, but at least the scenery. Finals are three weeks after we get back from the break. It's amazing to think that my first semester at college is almost over, it's gone by so fast!

I hear Michigan might get a little snow while I'm there- not sure how I feel about that one- I definitely like the sunshine and have enjoyed the upper 70-degree weather we've been having the past week. It'll be pretty funny getting on the plane tomorrow night wearing a long sleeved shirt and jeans with my winter coat while its in the 70's outside, but I'll need it when I get off the plane and it's in the 30's.

I don't know what all of your family do for the holiday, but I hope it's enjoyable. My family is having Thanksgiving dinner at my house this year, and on Friday my mom, sister and I always go shopping. Yes, it's crazy, but a ton of fun and I can get almost all my shopping done in one day.

Well, on to actual school stuff -- these past two weeks have been extremely busy with all the homework, projects, and papers teachers assigned to grade over the break. Not to mention I had a few tests in there. But other than my research paper- that I waited too long to start- everything was done before the due date with time to spare.

Work is going good as well, helped with a few large tour groups the past two weeks and it's been fun talking with prospective students about the school and why I love it so much. Tours also have been a nice change of pace and it's nice to be outside enjoying the beautiful weather we've been having, not just looking at it from inside the classrooms and at work in the offices.

Well, I have to get back to work so I can turn in my math assignment for the class I'm missing today because I'll be driving to the Orlando Airport. I hope the Holiday is enjoyable for all of you and I wish you safe travel and good memories!

Until next time! Happy Landings!
Kristina

November 11, 2004

Hey Everyone - I have been so busy the past two weeks! Sorry to all of you who have e-mailed and have not yet received a response. I am working on them and will try to reply to all of you by the end of the week :).

Well, since I've written last, school has gotten a lot busier, we have so much material to cover before the end of the semester and getting a late start, due to the hurricanes, has made for a stressful last couple of weeks! But, I will tell you that all the professors have been really great about everything and continue to be very approachable when you need help. In addition to studying for tests, working on projects, and writing research papers, I am currently working on planning my schedule for the coming semester. It's quite a load!

Moving on to more upbeat things! Last week we had a long weekend because of homecoming. We had University Day on Friday and my parents flew down to visit me for the weekend, because it was also Parents/ Alumni Weekend. On Friday I got the day off work and hung out with my parents and friends Crystal, Ralph and Ben (who's Birthday was this week :)). We went to the parade that featured all the clubs on campus who made floats based off of movies, and the basketball game that night. On Saturday I worked Open house, which was a huge success, and that night two of the guys from "Who's line is it anyway" came and did a live version of the show for us- it was really funny! It was so nice to just relax with my friends and parents over the weekend, but hard to say goodbye. This seems to be the hardest stretch, everyone is looking forward to going home for Thanksgiving and getting re-energized to come back after that break for exams.

Hope everything is going well in all of your lives. Keep e-mails coming; I love to hear from you!
Until next time! Happy Landings!
Kristina

October 28, 2004

Hello everyone- To start off, I just wanted to say thanks to those of you who e-mailed me between my last journal entry and now. It's so cool to hear from you and get your feedback, not to mention it makes writing the journals a lot more fun knowing all of you are looking forward to reading them! I'll do my best to keep you informed and hopefully get you excited to come to Riddle, or help you not to miss it too much :) ( for all you alumni out there)!

I want to let you know a little bit about what I do on the weekends here in Daytona Beach, my classes and degree program, activities I'm involved in and work. This week in Daytona Beach it's Biketober Fest, basically there are a lot of bikes everywhere, at times even more bikes then cars on the road. It's pretty crazy, especially driving down the intracoastal on Main St. and A1A, and this isn't even bike week yet (that's sometime this spring)! Although I personally didn't get out and walk around to look at everything this weekend, we just drove by, I had some friends who did and they said it was really cool.

Also on the weekends I try to go to the sporting events on campus, do homework and laundry, and hang out with one of my roommates and other upperclassmen friends. Not to mention catch up on sleep sleep! I go to church on Sunday and we've gone to the beach a few times.

To get back to the school stuff -- I wanted to answer a few questions about my degree program here at Riddle. In the Air Traffic Management Program this year, I'm taking a lot of the general education classes: Pre-Calculus and Calculus, Speech, Intro to Computer-based Systems; Meteorology; a lower level humanities; science with lab; Pilot Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge; and I'm also in AT 300- the first ATC class.

This program consists of your ATC lecture and lab classes, safety classes, human factors classes, and some business and meteorology classes. Also your minor credits needed to complete your degree, which I plan to take in Meteorology and Human Factors. I love the degree program and am so excited to be taking classes in the program already my freshman year.

Extra-curricular activities I am involved in are TFO-Task Force One, a branch off of SGA (Student Government Association) that handles the concerns of the first year students. Also I am considering joining Women in Aviation, International and Young Life. But because of my on- campus job I don't really have a ton of free time after homework.

Work is still going well. I really enjoy talking to all the prospective students, helping them get information and answering their questions. And we're already starting to get ready for the Fall Open House, November 6, on campus. That week is also Parents weekend, Alumni weekend, and Homecoming and so it should be busy and a ton of fun! If you're not signed up already be sure to do it, it will be a great way to learn more about Riddle and maybe you'll get to meet me :)! I'll probably be helping out. I'll let you know.

Well, I need to get back to homework. Please keep the E-mails coming! Until next time.

Happy Landings!
Kristina

October 14, 2004

Hello again! I hope all is well with you and I'm glad you came back to read more about my experience here at Riddle!

School has truly begun! I never realized how much the hurricanes affected the schedule until this week, they really messed things up!

College work load really set in this week. It seems like everyone I know was bogged down with homework and tests. I personally had two this week. One in Meteorology on Wednesday, which went okay for me, and another in Air Traffic Management on Friday which didn't go as well as I had hoped. Both of the tests seemed to be on everything I didn't study, even though I studied for about 2 hours on each of them! Oh well, first tests are always the hardest. I now know how the teachers test and what kind of questions they ask; hopefully I'll know what to study for the coming ones!

In addition to the tests I still had a ton of homework in my classes. (A word to all of you still in high school, develop good study habits, they really come in handy at school when you have a million things to do!)

This weekend was such a nice break, well besides the home work. I stayed with a friend, Crystal, who lives off campus and we had a girls night, it was so much fun! On Friday night her friends and I all went to the Embry-Riddle Eagles Ice Hockey game. It was against FSU (Florida State University) and we won both that night and Saturday night. I only went to the game on Friday night though, but it was still fun.

On a different note, Work is going great. The other student assistants and I have a great time answering the phones and talking. We also do odd jobs like stuffing mailings that get sent out and entering data into the computers. I really love my job, and especially the other students I work with. There are some really cool counselors in the admissions office, they come check up on us and see how things are going. A lot of them are like moms to us and they really take the time to get to know us. This has been so nice for me, especially being so far from home, to know that I have people who are willing to help and care how your test went or classes are going.

Well, that's about all for now.
Until next time,
Happy Landings!
Kristina

Hey Everyone - Welcome to my Embry-Riddle online student journal!

I'd like to start out by introducing myself, my name is Kristina, and I am originally from Zeeland, Michigan. Zeeland is a small, conservative town, and mainly Dutch. (In high school all my classmates and I would refer to it as the "Dutch bubble"). I've lived in West Michigan my entire life and appreciate it more now that I'm away at college.

As you might be able to tell from my picture, I have an airplane. A Cessna 172 straight tailed Sky-hawk. It's my baby. I am a student pilot, although I am not flying on campus, and have grown up in or around airplanes my entire life. My dad is my instructor and we have an awesome relationship. He introduced me to flying at the age of two, when he took me up as his first passenger, car seat and all, after getting his private pilot certificate. This past year, my family built a house on the small private airport which we fly out of, Ottawa Executive, and we have a hangar as part of our garage! It's a dream come true, and as much as I miss it, living on Daytona Beach International Airport isn't too shabby.

Your probably wondering what I'm going to school here at "Riddle" for if I'm not flying. I'm a freshman this year in the air traffic management program, or air traffic control. I hope to double minor in human factors psychology and meteorology.

When I graduate, I hope to be hired by the FAA and work in a tower at a class D airport. In addition, I would like to own my own plane and house on an airport, and give flight instructions as a side hobby.

So far I love all my classes, that is all 7 days I've had of them this far. It's been quite the start to my college journey! Daytona Beach has been hit by 3 hurricanes since school has started, causing classes to have been cancelled for about two and a half weeks. It feels weird to not be in a routine yet, most students after a month of classes are worried about tests and papers.... we're all still trying to remember what room our classes are in and who is in them. But, the school has done an excellent job at making everyone feel secure and assuring us they will try their best to not make drastic changes to the schedule or have to add additional days to school.

I also have a job on campus, working in the admissions office as a telecounselor, basically answering the phones for the 1-800 number. I will try to keep you informed on how everything is working out for me as a student employee.

I hope you will continue to read my journals to hear about how my college experience at "Riddle" as a student and an employee is going. Please feel free to post any questions you may have on the discussion board under the "ask student journal writers" or e-mail them to me at: honor01d@erau.edu. Happy Landings, Kristina.
