Let’s Keep “The Flu” Out of ERAU!

Although flu activity has declined in recent weeks, 2009 H1N1 Influenza viruses continue to spread in the United States and abroad. Recently, some colleges and universities have reported increased influenza activity on their campuses. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and ERAU Health Services strongly suggest the following things you can do to protect yourself and all of us from the spread of the Swine Flu:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly and often, especially after you cough or sneeze. Hand sanitizer is also effective.
  • Cover your cough with a tissue and throw it away afterwards. Cough into your sleeve as an alternative.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
  • Avoid close contact with sick people.
  • If you experience flu-like symptoms, stay home, consult a health care provider and avoid contact with others. If you live on campus, report your symptoms to ERAU Health Services, the residence hall staff, or Campus Safety as soon as possible.

The symptoms of the Swine Flu are similar to that of seasonal influenza, including:

  • Body aches
  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Chills
  • Diarrhea and vomiting in some patients

Flu symptoms are severe, with rapid onset while symptoms of a cold have gradual onset and are less pronounced. For more information visit the CDC website at www.cdc.gov .
