Flight Training at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Science degree graduates have exceptional opportunities to become new-hire pilots via relationships with the airlines above.

More about the programs

The Embry-Riddle flight training program provides the actual hands-on flight experience segment for our four-year Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Science degree.

Our approach to aviation education gives our students The Embry-Riddle Edge -- added value over other collegiate flight training programs -- an edge that lands our students the best jobs in the aviation industry.

Here's why: The flight program at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is more than just a way to earn ratings -- it is a true professional pilot course.  Students fly in an airline- or corporate-style environment: they are professionally dispatched and supervised and use flight procedures that closely resemble those of the airlines.

The program incorporates state-of-the-art simulation from the very beginning. Academic classroom lessons taught by experienced Aeronautical Science professors provide the foundation of knowledge and experience required of professional pilots. Students first learn to verbalize the required flight knowledge in detailed oral sessions with an instructor followed by initial practice in realistic --full visual --flight simulators (flight training devices). Finally, they move to the aircraft to validate what they have learned.

FAA Recognition

In recognition of the excellence of our course of instruction, the FAA has granted Embry-Riddle Part 142 certification. This allows our students to graduate as Commercial-Multi-Engine Pilots in 140 total hours (flight and simulator) rather than the 250 hours required by the FAA under part 61. Embry-Riddle is the only major university offering this program.

This allows our students to move on and earn their instructor certificates sooner and then join the flight department as part-time or full-time flight instructors and build valuable experience for their future careers.

The Embry-Riddle Edge

Our flight training program is the most comprehensive program available in a four-year academic degree program. We introduce students to advanced crew operations, cockpit resource management, turbine operations, transport category aircraft operations, severe weather avoidance techniques, and high altitude/high performance operations.

All check flights (final flight exams) are administered by FAA-approved examiners on our staff.

We offer state-of-the-art simulation and cutting-edge aircraft and technology along with airline-style flight operations, procedures, and standards. The dynamic blend of our flight training procedures, top equipment -- and instructors with wide-ranging aviation industry experience -- ensures our students are ready for their first professional flying position. All this gives our students a strong competitive edge. You'll learn more about this Embry-Riddle Edge as you visit the rest of our Web site.

A flight training program with a solid past, present -- and future

Embry-Riddle is the only accredited, aviation-oriented university in the world. As the world's oldest, largest, and most prestigious university specializing in aviation and aerospace, we've been training pilots longer than any other college or university.New aircraft with Garmin-1000 glass flight deck

Embry-Riddle's undergraduate aeronautical science (professional pilot) program is the largest in the nation.

The major airlines hire more alumni from Embry-Riddle than from any other collegiate aviation program.
