Degree Plus Maintenance Expertise In High Demand

Every commercial, private, or military aircraft requires the careful attention of professional aviation maintenance specialists.

Without these specialists' commitment to quality, the air traffic system would cease to function. If you choose to earn Embry-Riddle’s degree in Aviation Maintenance Science, your expertise will be sought after by the aviation and aerospace industry.

Students in the Aviation Maintenance Science degree choose an area of concentration from four possible choices; Maintenance Management, Aerospace Electronics, Flight, and Information Technology.

The Maintenance Management, Flight, and Information Technology areas of concentration all require the FAA Airframe and Powerplant certification as part of the 120 hour degree program. Students in the Aerospace Electronics area of concentration have the option of doing the airframe and powerplant track or doing any minor program of study.

Maintenance Management
Ideal for students who wish to progress in aviation maintenance business and management careers.

Aerospace Electronics
For students seeking a career related to aviation or space electronics (avionics) systems support or maintenance. To complete degree requirements students who choose this area of concentration may complement their electronics education and training with an airframe and powerplant certification or choose any minor program of study.

Flight
Ideal for students who wish to combine a maintenance background with the qualifications of a commercial pilot.

Information Technology

For students who are interested in the application of computer technology in aviation technical support operations.

In addition to the FAA airframe and powerplant certification you can receive while attending this program, you will receive a foundation that will allow you to excel in a variety of aerospace/aviation fields. You'll also develop leadership skills in preparation for management opportunities that may come your way after graduation.

PROGRAM INFORMATION

Bring your A&P mechanic's certificate with you for academic credit or take the certification coursework at Embry-Riddle as part of your degree program

Without the devotion of professional aviation maintenance experts -- very special people--
the air travel system could not exist. The demand for degreed aircraft maintenance specialists in the aviation/aerospace world has never been greater than it is today. The Aviation Maintenance Science program (AMS) at Embry-Riddle produces these aviation professionals, the best in the world.

The Aviation Maintenance Science degree is comprised of 120 credit hours, which includes credit for the Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification. With the exception of the Aerospace Electronics area of concentration, the A&P certification is required for graduation from the program. (See the catalog description for clarification).

The courses taken in the Aviation Maintenance Science Department lead to a student being approved for the A&P certification exams. Credit will be granted for any student who enters the University already in possession of the A&P certification.

International certification, which may be equivalent to the Airframe and Powerplant certification, will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and, if approved, may be used for academic credit.

The degree has several options called areas of concentration (AOC). You can choose AOC's in Maintenance Management, Aerospace Electronics, Flight, or Information Technology.
