Veteran Washington Columnists to Speak at Town Hall Forum

Craig Crawford Helen Thomas

Columnists Helen Thomas and Craig Crawford will speak at Embry-Riddle on Tuesday, Feb. 16, as part of the President's Speaker Series.

Thomas is a veteran news service reporter, a Hearst Newspapers columnist, and a member of the White House Press Corps. She served for 57 years as a correspondent and, later, White House bureau chief for United Press International. Thomas has covered every U.S. president since John F. Kennedy. She has written five books.

Crawford is a writer and television political commentator based in Washington, D.C., and a columnist for Congressional Quarterly. He has written three books.

Darris White Wins NSF Outstanding Faculty Award

Darris White

Darris White, associate professor of mechanical engineering, was recently presented with the EcoCAR NSF Outstanding Incoming Faculty Advisor Award during year-one competition in Toronto, Canada.

He was chosen as the faculty advisor who best incorporates EcoCAR goals and activities into the undergraduate engineering curriculum and who has had the most significant impact on the engineering education of their students.

The prestigious EcoCAR contest, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, General Motors, and other government and industry leaders, challenges selected teams of college students to design an eco-friendly car of the future.


EcoCAR Students Win Women in Engineering Award

Award Winners

Four Embry-Riddle students have received the Women in Engineering Award sponsored by the Women in the Winner's Circle Foundation. The award honors female engineering students who are demonstrating outstanding technical excellence and accomplishments in the prestigious EcoCAR competition. From left to right are award-winners Jeanette Barott, Nicole Lambiase, Jennifer Haydt, and Nikki Puchacz.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, General Motors, and other government and industry leaders, the three-year EcoCAR competition challenges 17 select teams of college students from across North America to re-engineer a 2009 Saturn VUE, transforming it into an extended-range electric vehicle.
