2013 Virtual Hiring Event FAQs - Job Seekers

What is the Virtual Hiring Event?

The Virtual Hiring Event is an opportunity for students and alumni to view and apply for a large number of positions posted by employers in the EagleHire Network, our online resume referral and job posting system. Because the event is virtual, it is open 24/7 and candidates can be anywhere in the world and still participate.

How does it work?

Employers post positions to participate in the event. These positions can be found by either clicking here during the event (once you are logged into your EagleHire Network account) or by clicking on the "2013 Virtual Hiring Event" link under the Jobs & Internships section of the main home page in your EagleHire Network account (not currently available). Candidates will have access to preview positions in the system during the weekend prior to the start of the Virtual Hiring Event. On the morning of February 11, 2013, positions will open to allow candidates to apply, and will remain open through Thursday, February 21, 2013.

When will I have access to positions?

You will be able to preview Virtual Hiring Event positions the weekend before the event (February 9-10, 2013). Positions will open for all candidates to apply on Monday, February 11, 2013.

Why is there a preview period?

This allows everyone a fair chance to review all of the postings and prepare any necessary documents/application materials that may be required before the event begins on Monday.

How can I participate?

Prior to the event's start date, you will want to be sure you upload your resume to the EagleHire Network. Your resume will then be reviewed by your Program Manager or a designated staff member. Once your resume has been reviewed, it will either be approved, or you will receive suggestions for improvement and will be asked to make edits and re-upload a revised resume to the system. During the week before the Virtual Hiring Event, there is a large influx of candidates uploading resumes to the system. Ideally, you should plan to upload your resume at least 2 weeks before the event begins in order to allow ample time for your resume to be reviewed and for you to make any suggested edits. You must have a reviewed and released resume in the system in order to participate.

Are co-ops/internships included in the Virtual Hiring Event?

No. If you are interested in participating in the Co-op/Internship program, you will want to search the system for positions independent of the VHE. Contact your Program Manager for more information, as there are additional steps that need to be taken in order to apply for these positions through the EagleHire Network.

How can I see which companies are participating prior to the event?

A running list of registered companies will be available here. This list will be final on Friday, February 8, 2013.

How do I view and apply for positions during the event?

  • Log in to your EagleHire Network account
  • In the Jobs & Internships search box, select "2013 Virtual Hiring Event" under "More Search Options" (not currently available)
  • Here, you can either narrow your search by selecting items for your query, or keep your search broad to see what positions are posted by not selecting any query items
  • Click on each position to view more information and to apply

What kinds of positions will be included with this event?

Positions of all levels will be included with this event: entry-level, mid-career, and experienced. Our office defines "entry-level" as 0-2 years of experience, "mid-career" as 3-7 years of experience, and "experienced" as more than 7 years of experience. Note that co-op and internships positions are not included in the Virtual Hiring Event.

I am not an Embry-Riddle student or alumnus - can I still participate?

Unfortunately, no. This event is only open to students and alumni of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

I work at Embry-Riddle but I did not graduate from here and I have never attended as a student - can I participate?

Unfortunately, no. This event is only open to students and alumni of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Will candidates from all three campuses be able to view positions and apply, or is the event campus-specific?

Yes. The EagleHire Network (and hence, this event) is open to all students and alumni from the Daytona Beach, Prescott, and Worldwide campuses.

How can I increase my chances of getting interviews?

First, it is VERY important that you follow ALL application instructions carefully. Additionally, please check and double-check all documents you submit to ensure they are error-free (e.g., make sure all cover letters are addressed to the right company/contact person). It is also very beneficial for you to personalize each and every application (resume and cover letter) to the position and company for which you are applying. Finally, do not apply for positions for which you do not AT LEAST meet the minimum requirements.
