Dr. S. Harry Robertson was elected to the Board of Trustees of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in April 1991. He serves as a member of the Academic, International Affairs, Facilities & Capital Planning, the Committee on Trustees and the Flight Education and Safety committees. He is also a charter member of Embry-Riddle's Center for Aerospace Education (CASE) Advisory Council.

Dr. Robertson is the President and CEO of Robertson Research Group, Inc., in Tempe, Arizona. The company produces a wide range of crashworthy auxiliary fuel systems, primarily for military aircraft. In addition, he is involved in the study of aviation accidents and related crashworthiness issues. He graduated with a B.S. degree from Arizona State University in 1956. In 1972 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He was an active military pilot in the U.S. Air Force, the Arizona Air National Guard and Army National Guard units from 1956-1974. He also holds a commercial pilot certificate, and is rated in single- and multi-engine airplanes, as well as helicopters, gliders, and balloons. Throughout his aviation safety career, Dr. Robertson has held positions as Chief of the Hazard Division for Flight Safety Foundation; Research Professor and Director of the Safety Center in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Arizona State University; Director of Crash Research Institute; and Director of the International Center for Safety Education. He has authored or co-authored over 80 technical/scientific papers including all six editions of the U.S. Army's Aircraft Crash Survival Design Guide, and he and his companies hold patents and FAA Supplemental Type Certificates for various crashworthy fuel system components. Dr. Robertson often speaks at civilian and military aviation safety related symposiums, and is frequently interviewed by national television networks regarding aviation safety issues.

Dr. Robertson has received numerous awards and honors including: Induction into the Aviation Halls of Fame of the U.S. Army, the State of Arizona, the OX5 Aviation Pioneers, and is a current candidate for induction into the National Aviation Hall of Fame; the Hasbrook Award for contributions to aviation medicine (Aerospace Medical Association); the Spruance Safety Education Award (SAFE Society); the Lederer International Award for Aircraft Accident Investigation (International Society of Air Safety Investigators); the Certificate of Commendation for research in accident prevention (National Safety Council); and the Admiral Luis de Florez International Flying Safety Award for research in aircraft crash fires (Flight Safety Foundation). He has also received the Renner Express Chief Stewards/Safety Award and the Continental Causality Company Safety Award for developing the crashworthy fuel systems used in the Indianapolis type racing cars (Indianapolis Motor Speedway).
