Bob Oxley, Ph.D.

Dr. Bob Oxley has been with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University since 1979, and was elected as the Daytona Beach faculty delegate in April 2007. He serves as a member of the Academic and Development committees.

Dr. Oxley holds a B.A. degree in Humanities from Ohio Wesleyan University and a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His early academic work focused upon literature written in the English, Portuguese, Spanish, and French languages, especially during the late Medieval and the modern periods. At Embry-Riddle for the past fifteen years he has studied and taught about the impacts of technology on societies. He has published articles about the works of James Joyce, Jorge Luis Borges, and others; his most recent publication is about an early naval engagement during the American Civil War.

Dr. Oxley has served the University in many ways. Among other things, he chaired committees for each of the SACS reaccreditation efforts; chaired the Faculty Council during the mid-1980s; chaired the Humanities and Social Sciences Department for eight years; helped to start the B.S. in Communication degree; served on the Provost Search Committee 2006-07; and served as Speaker of the Faculty 2005-07.

Dr. Oxley's current interests include fund raising for the University. To that end, he founded and solicits funding for a scholarship aimed at Communication students, and chaired the Annual Fund Drive on campus for 2006 and 2007.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, birthplace of aviation, and reared in Troy, Ohio, home of Waco aircraft, Bob now lives in Ormond Beach. His family includes his fiancé Margaret DiGaetano, M.D.; daughter Tamara; and daughter Megan, son-in-law Tony, and grandson Dominic.
