Mr. Lawrence Clarkson was elected to the Board of Trustees for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University February of 2002. Mr. Clarkson currently serves as Secretary of the Board of Trustees and presides as Chair of the Audit Committee. Mr. Clarkson is also a member of the Committee on Trustees, Development, Executive, and International Affairs committees.

Larry is active on many business boards including; Chairman of the Board, Hitco Carbon Composites Inc; Chairman of the Board, Digital-Vending Services International, LLC; Board Member, Intelligenxia, Inc. and Avnet, Inc.; Former chairman of Interturbine and Board member- Atlas Air.

Larry was past President of Boeing Enterprises. In this capacity, he was responsible for establishing and directing new commercial airplane or aerospace-related business acquisitions, joint ventures or other relationships that are outside of the traditional Boeing business scope. Prior to this assignment, Clarkson served as senior vice president of Planning and International Development. He became known as the Boeing “secretary of state”.

He came to Boeing after a 20-year career with Pratt & Whitney, where he served as President of the Commercial Products (Jet Engines) Division. Prior to joining P&W, Clarkson served three years with the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of captain, and then worked for a brief time at a Florida law firm.

Active in many international organizations, Clarkson was chairman of the U.S. Pacific Basin Economic Council and the National Center for Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation and as well as chairman of The National Bureau of Asian Research. He was a director of the U.S.-China Business Council, the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies, the National Association of Manufacturers and the Atlantic Council. He also served on the U.S.- Japan Joint High Level Advisory Panel and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Pacific Council on International Policy and the National Research Council — Committee on Japan. He is past president of both the Washington State China Relations Council and the Japan-America Society of Washington, and is a past vice president of the Wings Club.

Clarkson holds a bachelor’s degree from DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Florida. He is a member of the Florida Bar Association and serves as a trustee of DePauw University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He is a former overseer of the Amos Tuck School of Dartmouth College.

Clarkson’s interests away from work include boating and opera. He is a member of the New York Yacht Club and the Metropolitan Club in Washington, D.C. Clarkson also served as chairman of the Seattle Opera for 11 years and the Interlochen Center for the Arts for 5 years. He is a Knight of the Order of St. John.
