Mr. John C. (Jay) Adams, Jr. was elected to the Board of Trustees for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, in January of 1968. Mr. Adams presides as Chair of the Development Committee and serves on the Academic and Executive committees.

Jay Adams received his B.S. degree in Business Administration with a major in Insurance in 1958 from the University of Florida.

Mr. Adams recently retired from his position as Executive Vice President and member of the Executive Committee of Brown & Brown, Inc. He is a Director of Consolidated-Tomoka Land Company.

Mr. Adams has been active in civic affairs for many years and has served as President of the Daytona Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, Daytona Beach Area Committee of 100, and the United Way of Volusia County. In addition, he is a Past President of the Board of the YMCA of Daytona Beach and currently serves on their Board, and has been Chairman and a member of the Executive Committee of the Civic League of the Halifax Area.

He has been a member of the Volusia County Insurers Association since his entry into the insurance business, and served as President of this organization in 1969. He was a Director of the Florida Association of Insurance Agents from 1977 to 1980. He is also a member of the Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers. Mr. Adams served as chairman of this national trade organization from 1997-1998, and is a current member of their Board.

Mr. Adams has held leadership roles in all of the capital campaigns of the University and in 1973, he received the prestigious C.H.I.E.F. ("Champions of Higher Independent Education in Florida") Award from the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida (ICUF). He has also received the Daytona Beach Chamber of Commerce "Man of the Year Award" and the "Herbert M. Davidson Community Service Award" from the United Way Foundation. Other awards bestowed upon Mr. Adams include the Annual Community Champion Award presented by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Volusia and Flagler Counties and the Distinguished Community Service Award presented by the Civic League of the Halifax Area.
