Key Responsibilities

The Associate Chancellor for Campus Operations of the Worldwide Campus reports directly to the Chancellor of the Worldwide Campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. The successful candidate will be responsible for the supervision and oversight of administrative operations for more than 150 United States and European locations, with more than 300 staff.  He/she supervises the Associate Directors of Campus Operations, whose responsibility is the day-to-day oversight of campus operations and regular contact with campus staff.  Also under his/her supervision is the Dean of the European Region and the Executive Director for Online Learning. 

A demonstrated leader and team player, the Associate Chancellor of Campus Operations collaborates regularly with the Associate Chancellors of Marketing and Enrollment Management and Institutional Effectiveness as well as the Chief Business Officer, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Academic Officer (Worldwide Leadership Team) in the coordination of campus administrative functions. In cooperation with the Leadership Team, he/she develops and executes initiatives to support the mission, values and strategic plan of Worldwide. 

The Associate Chancellor of Campus Operations serves as direct supervisor for more than 100 U.S. Directors of Academic Support, who manage the operations of their respective campus locations, and who each manage a staff of from one to four individuals. In this capacity, he/she fully understands the student enrollment life cycle — from prospective student to graduate — and recognizes the vital role that the campus staff play in student success.  He/she plays an active part in determining the role and scope of campus involvement in local community, military and industry relations as well as local marketing.

Qualifications & Attributes

The successful candidate will bring the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Significant experience in senior-level administration. The strong candidate will understand the importance oversight and leadership for the operation of each location to ensure its effective operation within the guidelines of policy and procedures.
  • Interpersonal effectiveness. Evidence of energy, drive and initiative, in combination with a track record of building and maintaining strong, collaborative, trusting relationships will enhance the candidate. The ideal candidate will be a person whose personal strengths will contribute to the building of a strong, unified team over geographical distances. The Associate Chancellor will work with Worldwide Headquarters departments to ensure that campus administrative procedures are efficient, effective, and accurately represented in the Worldwide Procedures and Operations Manual. He/She will ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations as well as requirements of SACSCOC accreditation.
  • Management effectiveness. The new Associate Chancellor will be a proven, decisive, highly skilled manager, collaborative in management style, respectful of alternative points of view, and comfortable in a collegial environment. He/She will support the staff of each location in their responsibilities for marketing and enrollment management, student support and local military, industry and community relations.
  • Exceptional communication skills. Essential is the ability to convey and help shape the Embry-Riddle vision, priorities and values to internal and external constituencies, including faculty and staff, senior administrators, alumni and donors. The Associate Chancellor will have an effective public presence and will be comfortable and skillful as a spokesperson.
  • Uncompromising standards of excellence, complete integrity and an ingrained sense of honesty and fairness.


Master’s degree required, Ph.D. preferred. Five to ten years of management experience required, preferably in higher education.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University began on December 17, 1925, exactly 22 years after the Wright Brothers’ first flight, when T. Higbee Embry and John Paul Riddle formed the Embry-Riddle Company at Lunken Airport in Cincinnati, Ohio. The following spring the Company opened the Embry-Riddle Flying School.

In 1939, Riddle joined John and Isabel McKay to establish the Embry-Riddle School of Aviation. They partnered with the University of Miami to provide flight training under the Civilian Pilot Training Program, increasing the number of pilots immediately preceding World War II. Embry-Riddle had experienced a period of decline in the 1930s was revitalized with the outbreak of World War II in Europe and its increased demand for aviators and mechanics. Allied nations sent more than 25,000 young men to Embry-Riddle’s Florida centers to become pilots and aviation technicians.

Following World War II, the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Institute (ERAI) continued the business of training pilots. Despite enduring financial hardship, the school continued to operate out of Miami. In 1963, Jack R. Hunt was named the first president of the ERAI. Under his leadership, Embry-Riddle continued to train pilots and mechanics in Miami. In 1965, President Hunt consolidated Embry-Riddle’s flight training, ground school, and technical training programs in one location and moved the campus to Daytona Beach, Florida, signaling the rebirth of Embry-Riddle and the start of its journey to world-class status. Within three years of the move, the institution was accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Two years later, in 1970, Embry-Riddle gained University status and was renamed Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

President Hunt was responsible for beginning the expansion of Embry-Riddle when he purchased a 510-acre site in Prescott, Arizona to establish the University’s western campus in 1978.

Organizational Structure

Embry-Riddle is organized into three campuses. Residential campuses in Daytona Beach, Florida, and Prescott, Arizona, provide education in a traditional setting, while the Worldwide Campus provides instruction to off-campus students through more than 130 centers in the United States and Europe and through online learning. Combined annual enrollment for all campuses is more than 34,000.

Dr. John P. Johnson currently serves as the University’s fifth President. Dr. Johnson was previously Provost and Interim President.

Worldwide Campus

Embry-Riddle Worldwide offers undergraduate degrees, graduate degrees and certificate programs via traditional classroom presentation and online. Classroom courses are available at more than more than 150 locations worldwide. Flexible class times accommodate the needs of students who are employed.

Online programs serve students whose schedules or geographic locations prevent them from attending classes at a residential campus or a Worldwide locations. These diverse and dynamic programs support and connect students in a virtual learning community through Web-based support groups, e-mail discussions and other online forums. We also offer Professional Education Programs to promote continuing education for our adult learners.

In the mid-1970s, Embry-Riddle opened its first locations at military bases and began offering its degree programs to servicemen and women who couldn't take classes at a residential campus. Shortly after the first location opened, Embry-Riddle added distance learning as an option to help on-the-go aviators, sailors and soldiers earn a degree. Back then, distance learning students received printed materials and lessons were mailed back and forth. Today, hundreds of web-based Embry-Riddle classes are in session around the world, attended by students at all hours of the day and night.
